Learn About Canal Capers

We all have a common interest - cruising the canals and rivers of Europe.......................

Our group has been growing steadily since its formation in 2004, we meet 2 or 3 times per year in Perth (Western Australia) to share our many enjoyable  experiences as we slowly cruise the waterways of Europe. There are over 6,000 kilometres of canals and rivers and that is just in France !

Our member's vessels are currently dotted throughout France, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The last time we counted;  there were over 25 European-based vessels owned by West Australians.

Although some "locals" live on their vessels for 12 months of the year, the "holiday" cruising season generally commences in April and continues through to October.

Canals - As they were originally built for the movement of cargo, canals usually meander through the centre of populated areas - such as Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Nancy, Strasbourg.- just to name a few examples.
Often moorings are in highly desirable places - for instance;  Epernay - one corner of the "Champagne triangle" - where there are cocktails on the wharf most evenings, which is also conveniently close to the champagne houses of Castellane, Moët & Chandon, Mercier, etc.
Personal transport is provided by the almost mandatory on board bicycles - with free exercise thrown in as an added bonus.

Whilst cruising, a friendly chat, a drink or 2  with the waterway fraternity, or indeed a quite picnic spot (fancy a game of boules?) is usually only a mooring away.

Bon Voyage !
