Boating community embraces new initiative in Burgundy

The commune of Saint-Jean-de-Losne is transforming into

The Town of Collections

Under the project name VILLCO, Saint-Jean-de-Losne is launching a new initiative - to become a unique and essential location for all enthusiastic collectors. The collections are to be diverse and will reach a wide audience while appealing to adults and children alike. They can be viewed while strolling though the streets or along the banks of the River Saone.

This idea is unique

The boating community has embraced project VILLCO having helped construct window displays and exhibit the collections. VILLCO is an imaginative project managed by a dedicated team which includes local residents, boaters and collectors. It will bring a new dynamic to this beautiful historic town which intends to become the centre of the world of collections

Finally - collectors have a town that is dedicated to their passion

    About the Author

Jo had a major lifestyle change ten years ago, prompted initially by his wife Jan's dire health issues when they made the decision to 'get on with it' before it was too late. Formerly a company director for a sports management company he had to learn new skills to fit out two narrowboats then refurbish an old Dutch barge. They spent three years working on, then traveling in, two narrowboats in the UK before moving to the continent in 2007. They bought a 110-year-old barge called Vrouwe Johanna and lived in Zwartsluis, Holland for two years while restoring and cruising their old boat. For the following five years they were based in St. Jean de Losne, Burgundy, where they made many new friends and cruised the canals and rivers of central and northern France. They are currently in Diksmuide. Belgium a world away from their home county of Lancashire. Jan, mercifully, remains healthy. Jo wrote a series of articles for a canal magazine in the UK, A Barge at Large is his first book.
